(Common) Sand Martin (Riparia riparia) Andorinha-das-barreiras

A summer visitor, arriving mid-April and leaving again in October, the Sand Martin is a colonial nester in sandy banks throughout Portugal. It is a delicate grey-brown bird with a white chin and belly separated by a light grey-brown upper-breast band. Remarkably tolerant of human presence I have even found a small colony within 3 mts of a busy cliffside path at a very well-known beach on the Alentejo's West Coast.
