Greater Short-toed Larks are a clean-chested lark with little or no crest and a Chaffinch-sized beak. They prefer fawn-coloured sandy soil against which they are superbly camouflaged.
A summer visitor the species can be found throughout Portugal wherever this type of soil is found, notably on the coastline of the Alentejo and western Algarve.
