Short-toed Eagle (Circaetus gallicus) Águia-cobreira

A snake-eating bird, the Short-toed Eagle is a migratory species arriving back here during the Spring particularly early, typically by the end of February. Unmistakeable. Quite often hovers and sometimes hunts in pairs. Our commonest Eagle - as long as one discounts Common Buzzards, with whose light phase it can sometimes be mistaken, but the size difference, with the Short-toed having at least 30 cm larger wingspan at approx 170, serving to dispel any doubts.
