(White-throated) Dipper (Cinclus cinclus) Melro-d'água

A resident species in the northern half of the country, Dipper's frequent flowing streams, preferably fast flowing ones, where they swim and walk along the bottom of the stream-bed searching among the pebbles for invertebrates. A solid little brown body with a white chest it has a white nictitating membrane to protect its eyes and, uniquely among birds, they possess solid bones that aid them in their "underwater" lifestyle.
